Beyond the Buzzwords: A Case Study in Team Cohesion with Orrjo

In today's fast-paced business world, it’s easy for a team to lose its rhythm. For Orrjo, a dynamic and growing company, the challenge wasn't a lack of talent or passion, but a need to enhance how their team communicated and collaborated. They recognised that to truly succeed, their people needed to go beyond simply working together—they needed to understand one another on a deeper level. This case study details how a targeted "Know Yourself" workshop, utilising the TTI Success Insights DISC assessment, helped Orrjo's entire team unlock new levels of self-awareness and improved communication.
The Challenge: Enhancing Team Dynamics
Orrjo's team, while highly skilled, needed a framework to better understand their individual behaviours, strengths, and communication styles. Misunderstandings, miscommunications, and ineffective collaboration can often stem from a lack of self-awareness and an inability to adapt to others’ preferences. The team needed a common language to discuss these differences constructively, moving beyond assumptions to a more objective understanding of how each person contributes and prefers to work. The goal was to build a more cohesive and efficient team, capable of navigating their collective projects with greater clarity and empathy.
The Solution: A "Know Yourself" Workshop
We partnered with Orrjo to design and deliver a half-day classroom workshop at their Glasgow offices. The session was built around the powerful insights of the TTI Success Insights DISC assessment. The DISC model is a non-judgmental tool that provides a common language for understanding human behaviour and communication styles. It categorises behaviours into four main areas: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Conscientiousness (C).
The workshop's key components included:
- TTI Success Insights DISC Assessment: Prior to the workshop, every team member completed the online assessment.
- Group Debriefing: In the workshop, a facilitator debriefed the team on their individual DISC reports. This wasn't just a passive presentation; it was an interactive session where team members explored their own behavioural and communication preferences.
- Understanding Others: The workshop focused on how to identify the behavioural styles of colleagues. This crucial step helped them understand why a colleague might approach a task differently or communicate in a way they didn't expect.
- Adapting Communication: The core takeaway was teaching the team how to adapt their own communication and behaviour to better interact with others. For example, a team member with a high 'D' style learned how their direct approach might be perceived by a colleague with a high 'S' style, and how to adjust their communication for a more productive outcome.
The Outcome: A Stronger, More Cohesive Team
The video and feedback from the team speak for themselves. The workshop was described as “super engaging” and “really enthusiastic,” with team members actively participating and enjoying the session. The feedback from a team member highlights the value: “Paul was fantastic, he absolutely nailed it. He had us invested from minute one and kept a hold of our attention for the whole two hours.”
By the end of the half-day session, the Orrjo team had a clear, shared understanding of their individual and collective dynamics. This new self-awareness and understanding of others’ behaviours will enable them to:
- Improve Communication: They can now tailor their conversations to the recipient, reducing misunderstandings and increasing efficiency.
- Enhance Collaboration: By recognising and valuing different working styles, the team can collaborate more effectively on projects, leveraging each person's unique strengths.
- Build a Stronger Culture: The workshop laid the foundation for a more empathetic and supportive team culture, where differences are understood and celebrated rather than being a source of conflict.
In a competitive market, a team's ability to communicate and collaborate is its most valuable asset. The "Know Yourself" workshop provided Orrjo with the tools to strengthen this asset, proving that investing in your people's self-awareness is a direct investment in your company's success.
